GFG Style

2026-09-19 01:40:00

GFG Style is an Italian automotive design house co-founded in 2015 by legendary car designer Giorgetto Giugiaro and his son Fabrizio Giugiaro, with headquarters in Moncalieri, Turin, Italy. The brand name "GFG" represents the initials of its founders—Giorgetto and Fabrizio Giugiaro. As a global automotive design consultancy, GFG Style delivers end-to-end turnkey services ranging from initial concept ideation and styling development to running prototypes, covering feasibility studies, 3D modelling, prototype builds, and show car fabrication. Unlike mainstream carmakers, GFG Style does not engage in mass production; instead, it leverages its design expertise and engineering prowess to provide bespoke high-end design services to global marques.

Development History

GFG Style’s heritage dates back more than half a century. In 1968, Giorgetto Giugiaro founded the acclaimed Italian design house Italdesign, penning hundreds of iconic models over the decades—including the first-generation Volkswagen Golf, Passat, Alfa Romeo, Ferrari 250GT, Aston Martin DB4, and BMW M1—earning him the monikers "Car Designer of the Century" and "God of Italian Design". In 2010, Audi acquired a 90.1% stake in Italdesign before taking full ownership in 2015. That same year, Giorgetto teamed up with his son Fabrizio, who brought 30 years of automotive design experience, to establish a new independent design studio: GFG Style.

Following its inception, the company quickly cemented itself as an industry benchmark, establishing deep collaborations with several Asian and European carmakers. GFG Style operates two premises in Moncalieri, Turin: an operational headquarters in the core R&D hub housing a styling centre equipped with cutting-edge simulation and virtual reality (VR) tech, complemented by a collaborative network built across five decades in Turin's automotive cluster, ensuring full industrial-tier support for clay modelling and prototype fabrication.

Beyond in-house concept builds, GFG Style provides bespoke design consultancy for international car brands. In 2018, GFG Style partnered with Beijing CH-Auto to form a joint-venture automotive design firm in China, introducing cutting-edge styling methodologies. In 2019, GFG Style co-designed the Landwind Rongyao with JMCG, blending Italian flair with Chinese market requirements. In 2022, Hyundai Motor commissioned GFG Style to recreate the long-lost 1974 Pony Coupé Concept. Driven by the philosophy of "shaping the future with heritage", the historic Turin Motor Show concept was revived and officially unveiled in spring 2023.

Fabrizio serves as CEO, overseeing GFG Style’s day-to-day operations and project rollout, keeping the Giugiaro family's design legacy alive.

Brand Matrix / Product Line

GFG Style's portfolio covers in-house concept cars and client bespoke programmes, having developed over ten concept cars to date, all powered by pure electric or hybrid powertrains.

In-House Concept Models

Kangaroo (2018) was the brand’s maiden concept—a fully electric, all-wheel-drive (AWD) hyper-SUV engineered for all terrains, from race tracks and sand dunes to mud and snow. It features four-wheel steering and an adaptive suspension system with three ride height settings. Built on an aluminium spaceframe chassis with carbon-fibre bodywork, it sprints from 0-100 km/h in 3.5 to 3.8 seconds, reaches a top speed of 250 km/h, and delivers an estimated combined range of 450 km.

Vision 2030 (2019) is a two-door, two-seater all-terrain electric hyper-SUV created for Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 initiative. Featuring a carbon-fibre body and aluminium chassis, it packs a 90 kWh battery delivering 510 hp and 502 lb-ft of torque, hitting 0-62 mph in 3.8 seconds with over 280 miles of range. It offers three drive modes—Race, Road, and Off-Road—with adjustable ground clearance from 5.5 to 8.7 inches, an interior equipped with six digital displays, and holds the distinction of being the first EV to run the Mille Miglia historic road rally. The Vision 2030 Desert Raid serves as the rugged, hardcore off-road derivative.

Bandini Dora (2020) is an all-electric AWD speedster paying homage to 1950s race cars crafted by Ilario Bandini. Driven by twin electric motors (one per axle) outputting a combined 536 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque, it does 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds, powered by a 90 kWh battery pack.

Sibylla (2015–2018 series) encompasses several iterations. The GG80 was a luxury four-seater electric saloon penned for Giorgetto’s 80th birthday, while the Sibylla Envision was developed in partnership with China's Envision Energy. Powered by the EnOS energy IoT platform, it stood as an early pioneer in interconnected, open-resource vehicle-to-grid tech.

Panda Top Less (2018) is an all-electric AWD compact multi-purpose concept based on the classic Fiat Panda, honouring Giugiaro’s original design. Production was capped at 10 units, offering configurations up to a six-seater layout.

GFG 2030 (2020) builds on the Kangaroo’s proportions, featuring an innovative canopy and door setup that opens upward and outwards simultaneously. It measures 4,770 mm long, 2,120 mm wide, and 1,360 mm tall, with a 2,830 mm wheelbase.

Peralta S (2025) is the brand’s latest one-off bespoke commission for Mexican car collector Carlos. Inspired by the avant-garde aesthetics of the 1972 Maserati Boomerang concept, it features hand-beaten, mirror-polished bare aluminium body panels that present a seamless monocoque visual, delivering an ultra-exclusive grand tourer stance.

Giotto Bizzarrini, LM1/Atrax/Barchetta Laffite represent the studio's hybrid hypercar lineup, reimagining historic supercar designs for the modern era.

Client Bespoke & Consultancy Projects

GFG Style delivers end-to-end design and prototype engineering services for third-party carmakers. Key projects include the Hyundai Pony Coupé Concept (2023, a faithful recreation of the 1974 show car), Landwind Rongyao (2019, co-developed with JMCG), and the Ren RS track car. GFG Style also styled the exterior and interior of the Kreos L 5009 and Kosmo H 1319 luxury motorhomes for Laika, both shortlisted for the ADI Design Index Award, underlining the studio's versatile mobility design capabilities.

Market Performance

GFG Style measures success by design delivery volume and industry acclaim rather than showroom vehicle deliveries. The studio delivers around 5 to 7 major design projects annually, spanning full vehicle development, concept cars, and aviation-inspired interior aesthetics. Over the years, the team has contributed to more than 300 production-spec models and over 200 prototype builds across Asia, Europe, and the Americas.

China remains a key strategic market. In 2018, GFG Style established a joint venture with Beijing CH-Auto to offer cutting-edge styling and engineering services to Chinese OEMs, subsequently injecting pure Italian design DNA into the 2019 Landwind Rongyao. High-profile show cars like the Dora, Kangaroo, and Vision 2030 have regularly turned heads at major international motor shows and earned accolades in annual design roundups by Wallpaper* and other leading design publications, upholding the studio's stellar standing in automotive styling.

Core Technologies

GFG Style’s core strength is not off-the-shelf EV powertrains or production-spec autonomous driving software, but three foundational pillars grounded in the Giugiaro family's 50-plus years of design heritage.

Design Philosophy and Avant-Garde Styling: GFG Style excels at complete, turnkey design execution—from initial sketch to running prototype. Its design language balances sculpted surfacing with the challenging synergy of compact exterior dimensions and generous cabin space. The crisp creases of the Kangaroo, the brawny stance and aero ducts of the Vision 2030, and the retro-minimalist lines of the Bandini Dora demonstrate creative freedom unfettered by mass-market constraints. Electrification has further unlocked packaging freedom, enabling lower front profiles and airier cabins due to compact EV componentry.

Lightweight Materials & Aluminium Spaceframe Architecture: Starting with the Kangaroo, GFG Style co-engineered an aluminium spaceframe architecture with partner CH-Auto, paired with extensive carbon-fibre composite outer panels to drastically shave off kerb weight. The Vision 2030, Kangaroo, and several sports car projects utilize this hybrid carbon-on-aluminium architecture, achieving class-leading rigidity-to-weight ratios fit for concept-grade performance.

Intelligent Connectivity, HMI & Active Chassis Systems: The Vision 2030 features a digital cockpit comprising six integrated screens for real-time telemetry and immersive driver feedback. The Kangaroo incorporates four-wheel active steering, giving a five-metre-long hyper-SUV sharp low-speed agility and rock-solid high-speed poise. The Vision 2030 also features height-adjustable active air suspension (5.5 to 8.7 inches of ground clearance), automatically adapting between Race, Road, and Off-Road modes to tackle everything from desert dunes to racetrack tarmac.

Furthermore, the Sibylla project integrated Envision's EnOS energy IoT platform, enabling the electric saloon to communicate seamlessly with smart grids and IoT ecosystems. While not conceived for mass production, it showcased visionary application of bidirectional vehicle energy management.

Global Footprint

GFG Style’s headquarters, styling studios, and R&D facilities are all based in Moncalieri, Turin, proudly delivering 100% "Made in Turin" Italian design on a global stage. The consultancy operates across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, handling cross-border design briefs with landmark projects delivered in China, South Korea, the Middle East, and beyond.

In 2018, GFG Style inked a joint-venture deal with Beijing CH-Auto Technology Co., Ltd. to establish an automotive design outfit in China, pairing European design expertise with local engineering execution. This partnership blazed a trail for front-end automotive design tech transfer in China, opening new avenues for domestic design capabilities. The 2019 Landwind Rongyao, co-designed with JMCG, subsequently brought authentic Italian styling to the Chinese SUV segment. GFG Style also collaborated with Chinese green energy firms like Envision Energy on smart-charging concept platforms, accelerating clean energy integration in commercial electric mobility.

In Europe, GFG Style penned two bespoke motorhomes for Italian coachbuilder Laika and partnered with several European boutique hypercar builders on styling and engineering consultancy. Its 2022–2023 collaboration with Hyundai Motor marked a significant milestone in Asia: commissioned to reconstruct the lost Pony Coupé Concept, GFG Style reinjected the Giugiaro father-and-son DNA into Hyundai's design heritage, generating widespread acclaim across global collector and design circles upon its spring 2023 unveiling.

Future Outlook

Heading towards 2026 and beyond, GFG Style will build on its legacy as an uninhibited creative powerhouse and a frontrunner in bespoke electrified automotive design. The studio will pursue a two-pronged development roadmap: continuing to empower international OEM clients (including partners in China, Europe, and South Korea) with complete design programmes combining Italian aesthetics with new energy and smart connectivity; and expanding its ultra-exclusive one-off coachbuilding portfolio. Following the Peralta S, GFG Style plans to craft fully bespoke, hand-built supercars every one to two years for a discerning circle of elite collectors.

On the technological front, as electrification and intelligent vehicle architectures evolve, GFG Style will deepen partnerships with battery and energy storage innovators, integrating hydrogen fuel-cell concepts and renewable energy IoT ecosystems into future concept cars to deliver turnkey "Design-First, Experience-Led" mobility solutions. At home in Italy, GFG Style is exploring joint training programmes with European supercar marques and design academies to nurture next-generation design talent and ensure the continuity of coachbuilding know-how.

GFG Style does not build volume production cars, but through its pedigree, artisanal craftsmanship, and visionary aesthetic sensibility, it continues to shape the future of luxury new-energy mobility. In an era of rapid automotive industry transformation, GFG Style remains the creative force behind global brands, demonstrating that even amidst sweeping digitalization and modular mass production, the Giugiaro family's timeless craftsmanship continues to ignite the golden age of automotive design.
